BTS Pt. 1

I think I’m in a visual mood lately, not so much about writing but more seeing and feeling. This blog is all about various professional methods filmmakers captured their thoughts, behind the scenes. Action!

“Part of the look for Thoroughbreds was heightened realism as well as classic cinema language. The Panavision Primo anamorphic lenses were the perfect fit as they were very clean yet had a very small depth of field when shot close to wide open. Sal Giarratano at Panavison NY was extremely helpful in securing us a few essential focal lengths in the G series line which cut perfectly with the Primos but was compact enough to use for steadicam. Another visual element was the specific flare we would get from the these anamorphic lenses. We shot a lot into overexposed windows and the horizontal bloom from these became a very distinctive look of the house and the world which was also a character into itself.” -Cinematographer @LyleVincent on Thoroughbreds.
