After declaring “All Hell Is Breaking Loose” at the first Academy Awards he hosted, Jimmy Kimmel could not have summed up better what was likely the biggest gaffe in Academy history: the wrong Best Picture award presented, for just under a minute, to a mistaken film from another envelope — likely a duplicate — still describing Best Actress.
Nonetheless, “Moonlight” gloriously earned the top notch, and is the first LGBT film to do so in history — achieving what many thought “Brokeback Mountain” could have eleven years prior.
Regardless, what many people need to get right is that the gaffe was not the fault of Warren Beatty, nor even Faye Dunaway, but actually the auditors of Price Waterhouse Coopers, the two now blocked from participating next year.
